Learning Opportunities/Education Programs

Core Concepts Level 1
This 30 hour introduction to hospice palliative care is designed to meet the needs of volunteers, primary caregivers  and personal support workers, however the course will be helpful to any care provider exposed to palliative care. The course covers topics such as an introduction to principles of hospice palliative care, pain and symptom management,  family dynamics, communications, ….and more.

Our Core Concepts 2 program has newly developed content and is now a 10 individual module program designed for all members of the interdisciplinary team from experienced hospice volunteer through to clinicians.  Topics will include Pediatric Palliative Care, Navigating the System and Ethics in Palliative Care among other

timely subjects.  Look for program dates on this site's main page or click here if you would like an email update when dates are announced. Certificates of completion will be offered for each module and a special recognition certificate will be given for participants who attend all 10 modules.

Resource Library
The PalCare Network of York Region has an extensive library of palliative care books, manuals and medical journals available for loan—free of charge. Our library is located in our offices at the Newmarket Health Centre, 194 Eagle Street, Newmarket.  The library is accessible to the public Monday-Friday 9am to 4pm (except on holidays).  Please feel free to visit often.
